Caras-Art: Shop Talk + Tips... What makes a "GICLEE" a better print. |
|||
| Giclée... A method of reproducing on a high quality printer. | Print...A copy of an image produced mechanically at the request of the artist. |
Original! The singular piece as produced by the artist. | ||
| This is a method of reproducing art using a fine quality printer and images recorded in digital form. Preparation of this digital format includes both color and value adjustments to match exactly the artist's original work. The papers and inks chosen for Giclees are of the finest grade. The "Giclee" Prints (pronounced gee-clay) are produced under the supervision of the individual artists who supervise all aspects of production. In that way they insure the best possible work reproduction. The giclee process is capturing the hearts and minds of artists, dealers, galleries and buyers as a beautiful alternative to traditional offset printing. In giclee printing the ink is actually sprayed onto the canvas or paper using inkjet printing technology. The color and vibrancy is astounding. It's almost impossible to distinguish the print from the original. Giclees are a definite advancement in the "print" category and contribute to an improved longevity of every print. |
The term has been used loosely to include images made by purely mechanical means. These include both photocopiers and offset presses. Prints can be made in a number of ways. Limited edition prints refer to a specified number of prints in an edition, with no further copies to be released. In contrast to the Giclees, Prints are ordered in numbers of 5,000 or 10,000 or more. Giclees are of Higher Quality and are produced one at a time. Prints in general circulation are also offerred for sale at this site. Framed prints make an easily affordable acquisition of many otherwise truly expensive original art works not available in any other fashion. |
Any original work offered by an artist will be the singular and only authentic representation of that piece in particular. This is true regardless of the media and format of the artwork being considered for purchase... it may be in the format of craft, of canvas, of painting on other than canvas.... But, definitely, each original will be in fact the one and only.
